Splatter lidded pot

All my lidded pots are handbuilt using earthenware clay. This means each section is cut out and joined together using slip. The lid and pot need to be dried and fired together, to prevent one from warping in the finishing processes and no longer fitting together.
I really enjoy the challenge of making these pots, and love getting creative with slightly different lid shapes and handles. Each different shape requires a slightly different drying technique to allow it to hold its shape and not crack.

This paticular pot was created by “splattering” different colours of underglaze onto the pot and lid using paintbrushes. Once this was dry the pot was painted with a transparent glaze to give it a lovely shine. The inside of the pot is bright orange. It is about 7cm tall and 8.5cm wide.
